General Admission Requirements

  • Application materials may be obtained from the Office of Graduate Admissions or from the Graduate Admissions' web site.
     
  • Applicants pay a one-time, non-refundable application fee.
     
  • US applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited, four-year college or university and must meet other admissions requirements as described by the program. 
     
  • Official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. Transcripts must include certification that the applicant has received a baccalaureate degree and include a calculated grade point average.
     
  • Admitted students who did not enroll within one year of acceptance must re-apply.
     
  • Previously enrolled students but have not been in attendance within the last three semesters must re-apply.
     
  • All documents and materials submitted to fulfill the application requirements for entry to a program at North Georgia become the property of the university and will not be returned. 
     
  • Application materials are kept for one year for incomplete files and three years for students whose applications are completed were accepted but who do not enroll.

International Students


International students are encouraged to attend North Georgia College & State University and should complete the International Application for Graduate Admission.

  • All official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. Transcripts must include certification that the applicant has received at least a baccalaureate degree and include a calculated grade-point average.
     
  • Prospective students are advised to consult with the Office of Graduate Admissions  in terms of the most recent requirements regarding financial statements, I-20 and visa forms, resident status, health insurance requirements, and scores on English proficiency tests.
     
  • International students must be degree-seeking.
     
  • International student must be enrolled full-time (9 hours per semester).

Transcripts

Two sets of official transcripts must be submitted from each regionally accredited institution attended for applicants for degree-seeking, master-level, and physical therapy programs.

Entrance Test Scores

  • Official entrance test scores are required for admission to most programs.  If you hold a master's from a regionally accredited institution, you may be exempt from entrance test scores requirement. See program for tests accepted and test score requirements.
     
  • It is recommended that the exam be taken 6 weeks prior to the application deadline to insure adequate time for processing.
     
  • The scores should be reported directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions by selecting North Georgia College & State University, institutional code #5497.
     
  • Photocopy of your personal test report may be submitted to verify that the exam has been taken; however, official test results must be received from the Educational Testing Service before your application is considered complete.
     
  • Test scores can be no more than six years old. 

Recommendation Forms

Not all programs require recommendations forms or letters.  Check program for details. If applying online, you may choose the online recommendation service. 

Physical Therapy applicants are required to use a common Georgia Consortium Doctorate Recommendation Form.

Immunization Certification Requirement

An immunization certification form, which is a Board of Regents’ policy, is required of all applicants. Former returning North Georgia students are required to meet any new immunization requirements since last attending North Georgia.

Totally online or at a distance programs are exempt from immunization requirement.


Physical Therapy applicants are required to submit the Medical College of Georgia immunization certificate after acceptance by the program.

Graduate Admissions Grade Point
Average Calculation for Admission

The number of completed grade point average credits is the total of completed units taken for the baccalaureate and all credits taken beyond the bachelor's degree for which students received a letter grade A-F or WF (plus and minus points are not used). 

If a student repeated a course, both attempts are used for the purpose of calculating the graduate admission grade point average. 

Transfer Students


North Georgia College & State University welcomes students wishing to transfer into its graduate program from other regionally accredited graduate institutions.

In order to earn a master’s degree at NGCSU, a student must earn a minimum of 24 hours of credit in residence applicable toward the degree. Some programs may require a higher number of credits in residence; consult the transfer-credit policy for the specific program.

All transfer credits must be approved by the student’s advisor and the program coordinator.
 

Time Limit

All degree-related courses, including transfer course work, must be completed within a six-year period.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid is available for degree-seeking, regular admission status, graduate students.  Check with Financial Aid for details.

Appeal of Graduate Admission Decision

An applicant whose application is denied because of graduate admission cumulative grade point average is not at least the minimum requirement or an acceptable test score for appropriate entrance exam was not earned has the right to appeal the decision.

Applicants who appeal are admitted with provisional status.  You are not eligible for financial aid while taking courses under provisional status.
